Fence cleaning is one of those services that customers often add to a house wash without realising how much difference it makes. A clean fence, especially a Colorbond run that has been sitting in the sun and the rain for years, dramatically lifts the look of a property. The technique is exactly the same soft wash we use on house walls: low pressure, biodegradable chemistry, top-down rinse. The result is a fence that looks close to new without any risk to the colour-bonded finish or the painted timber.

Colorbond fences: the most common Brisbane scenario

Colorbond is the most common fence material in modern Brisbane suburbs. The colour-bonded paint finish is sealed and chemistry-resistant, which means soft wash chemistry handles dirt and algae without affecting the colour. We avoid high pressure on Colorbond fences because raw high pressure can affect the painted finish over time and is not necessary; the chemistry does the work. After a wash, Colorbond returns to close to its original colour. Older Colorbond that has chalked (a powdery white residue on the surface) can be partially restored by cleaning, but heavily chalked sections may need a respray rather than a clean.

Painted timber fences

Painted timber fences need the gentlest end of soft wash technique. We work top-down to avoid forcing water into the timber grain, use the lowest pressure that will lift the contamination, and let the chemistry dwell longer than we would on Colorbond. Older paint can be brittle and we test on a small section first to confirm the existing paint is sound. If the paint is already failing in patches, we will discuss with you before starting whether a clean is the right next step or whether a repaint is the better call. Stained timber (decking-style horizontal slat fences) we approach the same way as decks: minimal pressure, gentle chemistry, and acknowledge that a refresh-stain may be a better long-term move than a clean.

Rendered and masonry fences

Rendered front fences (a common Brisbane feature) clean the same way as a rendered house wall: soft wash chemistry, low pressure, dwell, top-down rinse. The render holds mould the same way a house wall does and benefits from the same 12 to 18 month cleaning cadence. Brick fences (painted or unpainted) handle slightly more pressure but the chemistry still does the lifting. Stone retaining walls and decorative stone fences we test first because natural stone responds differently from concrete or masonry; lower pressure and the right chemistry are usually fine.

Our fence cleaning process

Step one: walk the fence line to identify materials, condition, and any specific staining (mould bands, rust streaks, plant tannin). Step two: pre-wet adjacent plants and beds. Step three: apply soft-wash chemistry from the bottom up on each fence section. Step four: dwell for 10 to 15 minutes. Step five: rinse from the top down at low pressure. Step six: walk the result and address any spots that need a second pass. Step seven: send before-and-after photos. Fence cleaning is faster than house washing because there is less surface area per metre of fence than per metre of house wall, and most full perimeter fence cleans finish in two to three hours.

Common combinations and when to book fence cleaning

The most common combination is house wash plus fence. Both surfaces use the same chemistry and technique, so doing them together is efficient and saves on setup. House wash plus fence on a standard Brisbane home runs $500 to $750 combined. Fence-only bookings (when the house was cleaned recently and the fence is overdue) run $200 to $400. Pre-sale cleans frequently include fences because the boundary is the first thing prospective buyers see; we can prioritise the street-facing fence over the side and rear runs to keep cost down if budget is a factor.

Pricing for fence cleaning

Fence cleaning runs $200 to $500 depending on perimeter length, fence material, and condition. Short street frontages or single-side cleans run $200 to $300. Full perimeter on a standard suburban block runs $300 to $500. Combined with a house wash, the per-metre rate drops because setup and travel are shared. We quote a fixed figure for the whole job; if you want only specific sections cleaned (just the street frontage, just the pool fence), the price drops accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Will soft wash damage my Colorbond finish?

No. The Colorbond colour-bonded paint is sealed and chemistry-resistant. Soft wash handles the algae and dirt without affecting the finish. We avoid high pressure on Colorbond because it can dull the painted layer over time and is not needed.

Can you clean painted timber fences without lifting the paint?

Yes, with care. We test a small section first to confirm the paint is sound, use the lowest practical pressure, and let chemistry do the lifting. If the paint is already failing in patches, we will discuss whether a clean is the right step or whether you need to repaint first.

How often should I clean my fence?

Every 12 to 18 months for most Brisbane fences. Bayside suburbs (Wynnum, Manly) want every 12 months because of salt. Heavy-canopy suburbs (Carindale, Camp Hill, Belmont) also benefit from 12-month cadence because of organic debris and shade.

Can you clean both sides of the fence?

Yes. Both sides are included by default in a fence clean. Where the fence backs onto a neighbour and we cannot access the other side, we let you know in the quote and only price for what we can reach.

Do you clean fences alongside the house wash automatically?

We include the section of fence adjacent to the house (within the side and rear cleaning zone) at no extra cost if it lies along the same wall line we are washing. Full perimeter fence cleaning is quoted separately.
